Lessons include a qualified instructor, surfboard, wetsuit, boots, gloves (when needed), and rash vests for identification. Everything is provided to keep you safe and comfortable in the North Sea.
No prior experience is needed! Our beginner-friendly lessons are tailored to your ability level.
Bring:
A swimsuit (for under your wetsuit)
A towel
Sunscreen
Drinking water
A bag for your belongings
Warm clothes to change into afterwards
We provide all the surf equipment.
Yes! If you book the same session, you’ll be in the water together.
No, but:
If your child is under 8, a parent or guardian must stay nearby.
For children 8 and older, you can sign them in and return at the end of the session.
Each surf lesson lasts between 1.5 to 2 hours, including beach instruction and water time.
Yes — please arrive 15 minutes early to sign in and get into your wetsuit so you’re ready to begin on time.
We teach children from age 6, teenagers, and adults of all ages.
Group lessons have a maximum of 8 students per instructor to ensure safety and quality. Private and semi-private lessons are also available.

We only cancel for unsafe conditions like thunderstorms or extreme surf. A bit of rain won’t stop us! If we do cancel, we’ll reschedule your lesson.
Yes — especially under the guidance of our qualified instructors. All are trained in first aid, CPR, and ocean safety.
Lessons take place at Longsands Beach, Tynemouth, right in front of The Grand Hotel and beside the old outdoor pool. Meet us at Longsands Surf Shack on the beach.
Yes — surfboards, wetsuits, and boots are available for hire. No booking needed — just drop by Longsands Surf Shack, and we’ll also give you local surf tips.
