Where can we park?Free street parking is available above the beach (weekdays). Paid parking is available via the Spa Access road — £3 per day. It can fill up quickly in good weather, so arrive early.

Can I hire surfboards and wetsuits without a lesson?Yes — surfboards, wetsuits, and boots are available for hire. No booking needed — just drop by Longsands Surf Shack, and we’ll also give you local surf tips.

What age groups do you teach?We teach children from age 6, teenagers, and adults of all ages.

Where do the lessons take place?Lessons take place at Longsands Beach, Tynemouth, right in front of The Grand Hotel and beside the old outdoor pool. Meet us at Longsands Surf Shack on the beach.

How many students are in a group lesson?Group lessons have a maximum of 8 students per instructor to ensure safety and quality. Private and semi-private lessons are also available.

What is your cancellation policy?You can cancel or reschedule with at least 24 hours’ notice. Rescheduled lessons are valid for up to one year. Late cancellations may incur a fee.

Can I be in the same lesson as my child?Yes! If you book the same session, you’ll be in the water together.

What happens if the weather is bad?We only cancel for unsafe conditions like thunderstorms or extreme surf. A bit of rain won’t stop us! If we do cancel, we’ll reschedule your lesson.

What is included in a surf lesson?Lessons include a qualified instructor, surfboard, wetsuit, boots, gloves (when needed), and rash vests for identification. Everything is provided to keep you safe and comfortable in the North Sea.

Do I need to be in the lesson with my child?No, but: If your child is under 8, a parent or guardian must stay nearby. For children 8 and older, you can sign them in and return at the end of the session.

Should I arrive early for my surf lesson?Yes — please arrive 15 minutes early to sign in and get into your wetsuit so you’re ready to begin on time.

Is surfing safe?Yes — especially under the guidance of our qualified instructors. All are trained in first aid, CPR, and ocean safety.

Do I need any surfing experience to join?No prior experience is needed! Our beginner-friendly lessons are tailored to your ability level.

How long is each lesson?Each surf lesson lasts between 1.5 to 2 hours, including beach instruction and water time.

Do you offer surf camps or multi-day courses?Yes! We run multi-day surf camps and skill-building programs. Call us to find the right package for you.

What should I bring to my lesson?Bring: A swimsuit (for under your wetsuit) A towel Sunscreen Drinking water A bag for your belongings Warm clothes to change into afterwards We provide all the surf equipment.
